Big Berry Weekend Was a Success!

Thank you so much to the 40+ people who showed up for the Forest Heights blueberry-planting weekend, despite the cold weather!

An extra big shout out to the Van Wagtendonks of Tara Way. Caryn, Martijn, Tess and Max were on hand both days, as well as Jennifer Birch and Stefan from Timberlane. And, of course, a huge thank you to Clyde Yates of Hungry Gnome Landscapes for leading the charge again this year.

Together we planted six new patches and replaced one dead bush for a total of 32 new plants! Plus, we did maintenance on the nine existing patches from last year, getting them weeded, fertilized and re-mulched.

In total, there are now 15 blueberry patches spread across the neighborhood and a total of 103 bushes! Next, we’ll be purchasing some signs to put on the patches explaining that they are a gift of the community to anyone who wants to pick and eat them.

Also, we’re going to begin planning for this summer’s Blueberry Festival. If you’d like to get involved, please email me at Bart.King@4newgrowth.com.
