2021 Forest Heights Blueberry Festival

The 2021 Forest Heights Blueberry Festival will take place Saturday, June 26 from 1:30–9 p.m. (RAIN OR SHINE—bring tents!)

The purpose of the event is to build community connections and culture, while also raising funds for the Forest Heights Community Blueberry Project. Funds will be raised through the sale of festival t-shirts with this design by Hampton Park artist and illustrator, Jacob Wenzka.

Shirt pre-orders are now closed. But some will be available for purchase at the festival.

 

The Festival Events (Rain or Shine)

Pet Parade - 1:30 p.m.

Pet Parade Route, beginning and ending at Holly Court in Forest Heights.

The Pet Parade will begin and end at Holly Court and follow a looping route as marked on the map. Please be mindful of the following:

  • All four-legged pets MUST BE ON LEASH.

  • If you are not absolutely certain that your pet is safe for this event, please DO NOT BRING IT.

  • Please DO bring plastic bags to clean up after your pet. (Trash cans will be available at the festival site.)

  • Water will be available at the festival site.

  • Costumes are encouraged!

  • Spectators are encouraged to line the parade route and bring/play music.

  • Ferncliff and Rivermont will NOT be blocked to traffic. So please move to one side as needed to allow cars to pass safely.

Holly Court resident and organizer, Ron Hendon, will serve as the parade marshal, leading the procession.

 

The Blueberry Cook-off Contest - 3 p.m.

The only rule is that whatever you bake, brew, cook or otherwise prepare must include blueberries as a primary ingredient. The following awards will be given:

  • Most Delicious

  • Most Unusual

  • Best Presentation

  • Best Overall (for the title of 2021 Master of the Blueberries)

Plastic cutlery will be provided, but participants are responsible for bringing whatever other bowls, plates, cups, etc. are needed to serve their creations. Participants are required to bring enough for three judges and the emcee, Steve Sacco. Participants are strongly encouraged to also bring enough for onlookers to try.

The event will be limited to only 12 participants. Participation is free, but registration is required.

The Blueberry Jam Concert - 6–9 p.m.

The Blueberry Jam will feature performances by the following Forest Heights residents, many of whom are known throughout Athens—and some far beyond—for their incredible talents.

This will be a FREE, kid-friendly show. Amplification will not be too loud, and a porta-potty will be on site. Food will be available from Da Munchiezz food truck (owned and operated by Forest Heights’ Maxim Debonair).

Recycling and trash cans will be on site. Please help by cleaning up any trash around you before leaving and/or sticking around a few minutes to help take down tents and other equipment.

 
 

The Location

All festival events will take place in and around the grassy median of Holly Court, towards the back of Forest Heights.

Attendees are encouraged to walk to the festival, if possible. If you do drive, please park do NOT park on Holly Court or Holly Lane. Instead, park on the surrounding streets: Rivermont, Ferncliff and Woodcrest, and please be mindful not to block driveways, park on grass or run over pedestrians.
