Blueberry Festival Kicks Off Thursday with OG Event

The Forest Heights Blueberry Festival kicks off early this year with a new event at our neighborhood pub, Oglethorpe Garage, this Thursday, May 2 from 6-8 p.m.

The event will tap a custom-brewed blueberry beer by Southern Brewing Company and sell a limited supply of commemorative pint glasses with the 2024 Festival design by Kim Deakins of Pink Goblin Tattoo and Piercing. T-shirts, tank-tops, cozys and commemorative posters will also be available (while supplies last) during the event, and the Homymade taco truck will be on hand to serve up tasty food.

The event will double as an opening for a collection of artwork I began producing more than a decade ago with a flatbed scanner and natural objects. I’ll donate 10% of proceeds from the show to support the Community Blueberry Project, so please be sure to go inside and check it out. (A history of the project is now available here.)

We’ll also hold a short community forum with our new event partner, Athens Land Trust; a representative from ACC Leisure Services; and commissioner Dexter Fischer. The aim is share ideas and concerns about land-use and community issues in the Oglethorpe Avenue corridor.

Please come and help us make this new event a success. Also, be sure to mark your calendars for the Festival itself on Saturday, June 1!
