Volunteers needed: Blueberry Workday 2024

Kerem, Andy and Brian prototyped a new enclosure for the large patch on Tara Way. Despite the serious looks, it was a lot of fun!

We will be planting and maintaining the community blueberry bushes on Saturday, January 27 beginning at 8:30 a.m.

We have 20 patches to weed, mulch and fertilize, and we’ll be planting four new patches. If we have lots of help, we should finish around 4:30 p.m. But we need lots of people! So please come, if you can.

We’ll meet in the cul-de-sac of Landor Place towards the front of the neighborhood and split into work teams. Some people will assist Clyde Yates of Hungry Gnome Gardenscapes in planting bushes — including the first patches in Hampton Park and Breckenridge! Others will focus on weeding, mulching and fertilizing the older patches. And another group will build new, larger enclosures for the five healthiest patches that are outgrowing their cylindrical cages.

We’ll plan to take a lunch break from 11:30-12:30 and then reconvene at Landor Place. If you can only come for the morning or afternoon, that’s fine. But please do come!

Kids are welcome! But they will need supervision, since we’ll be working in and around the street with tools and machinery.

We also need lots of cardboard to put underneath the mulch to hold down weeds. If you have large boxes, please bring them with you in the morning, or drop them in advance in the front yard at 181 Timberlane Dr.

Rain date will be the following Saturday, February 3.
